Not Yet the Image

Not Yet the Image brings together works that explore how an image takes shape through perception, memory and time.

The photographs are made through small shifts in distance and viewpoint, then assembled across cards, plates and varied materials. A work can look different as you move closer: separate views begin to connect, while other details resist an immediate reading. The image forms gradually through fragments and partial views.

Inspired in part by early photographic experiments and Karl Blossfeldt’s careful plant studies, Vandebrug turns a serial gaze toward things still in the process of becoming recognisable. The works ask the viewer to spend time with that process, assembling an image piece by piece before it settles into certainty.
